Bastrop TX is host to the 4th Annual Crosshairs Texas Youth Safety Awareness Training class on Tuesday, June 18th, 2019. This youth class starts at 7pm and ends at 9pm. Several businesses have partnered with Crosshairs and sponsored this event so that EVERY kid has a chance to attend at no charge. Crosshairs Texas Youth Safety class introduces kids to safety rules that prevent gun accidents within the near future. The purpose of the lesson is to keep students safe by providing simple steps for them to follow if they should encounter a gun without a trusted adults supervision. The lesson is based on the premise that all community members want to protect students from gun accidents, unintentional related injuries or deaths. **The rules and principles of firearm safety and accident prevention are the basis for the development of the lessons** The lessons are designed to provide students with simple steps to follow should they encounter a gun while alone or with other children. Each student will receive a notarized certificate of attendance, tons of hand outs, safety locks, and gift bag. During this class, Crosshairs Texas will provide 500 free firearm safety kits to local residents through a partnership with Project ChildSafe, the nationwide firearms safety education program. The safety kits, which include a gun lock. Project ChildSafe, a program developed by the National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF), has distributed more than 36 million firearm safety kits throughout the country since 2003. The program us supported by the firearms industry and donations by individuals and organizations. We encourage residents to pick up a Project ChildSafe safety kit so that they can securely store their firearm, said Troy Michalik, owner of Crosshairs Texas LLC. Each kit contains a safety curriculum and a cable-style gun lock. The locks fit on most types of handguns, rifles and shotguns. The goal is to prevent a child or any other unauthorized person from accessing a firearm in your home. By partnering with Project ChildSafe, Crosshairs Texas is participating in a national effort to promote firearms safety education to all gun owners. Project ChildSafe has distributed gun lock safety kits to all 50 states and the five U.S. territories. We are pleased to have Crosshairs Texas as a Project ChildSafe partner, said Bill Brassard Jr., director of Project ChildSafe. Project ChildSafe is an important step forward in helping ensure all firearm owners fully understand their responsibilities with respect to the safe handling and storage of firearms.
